Topic for Unit 7 TRAFFIC
What should you do to have traffic safety?
Everyday many people are involved in road accidents. Some are killed. Many more are injured or maimed. So it is important for us to learn to use the roads properly and safely. No sane person would like to be involved in an accident.
As the roads are very busy nowadays, we should be very careful when crossing one. It is safer to use a pedestrian crossing or an overhead bridge whenever one is available. Never cross a road by dashing across it. That is inviting trouble. If there are no crossings, then we must look carefully right and left and cross only when it is safe to do so.
Some of us take the bus to school. It is important that we do not try to get on or off a bus while it is still moving. I tried to get on a moving bus once. It dragged me a short distance and nearly ran over me. I was lucky to escape with only some scratches on my legs. Also we must not fool around while in the bus. A suddenly swing can send us knocking our heads against something hard.
Using a bicycle can be dangerous too. We must pay attention on the road and never cycle too far out to the middle of the road. We must obey all traffic rules. Also we must make sure our bicycles are in good condition with working brakes, lights etc.
These are some things we can do to avoid accidents. However there is no guarantee that we will never be involved in one. The important thing is to stay alert at all times while using the roads. We must know what is happening around us. In that way we can take necessary action to avoid danger whenever we see one. Road safety is very much up to how we use the roads. Use them carefully and we may be able to use them for a long time. Use them carelessly and we may never be able to use them again.
More Questions
1. How do most people travel to work where you live?
Well, people use all kinds of vehicles to commute back and forth nowadays, but the most common one is motorbike. Traveling by motorbike is very convenient here in Hanoi because you can travel to places that cars or buses cannot reach.
2. What traffic problems are there in your area? Why?
There are still some kinds of traffic problems happening once in a while here in Hanoi. Most of the time we, Hanoi people, have to deal with traffic jams/congestions because the population here in the city has increased dramatically in recent decades, making a great burden on the transportation system that are underdeveloped. Once in a blue moon, we have to face with problem created by road works too.
3. How do traffic problems affect you?
Well, getting stuck in a traffic jam is annoying sometimes. It would take me up to 1-2 hours to get out of the crowd and it’s definitely tiresome and time-consuming. It’s also detrimental for your health since you have to breathe in polluted air containing CO2 from the exhausted fumes/smoke from the vehicles.
4. How would you reduce the traffic problems in your area?
There are some solutions to tackle the problems. First, the government can widen the road to meet with the fast-increasing number of vehicles in Hanoi. Second, schools need to teach students how to obey the traffic rules and drive safely.
Unit 8 Topic :
Describe your favourite movie
You should say:
What the film is about
Why you like it so much
What message the movie gives.
Answer
It’s quite hard to say what my favourite movie is because there are quite a few to choose from! But I would say that the one that made the strongest impression on me is a German film called ‘The Lives of Others’.
This film is set in communist East Germany, shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. At that time, the Stasi, the East German secret police, used to spy on all kinds of people. The two main characters in the film are a playwright called Dreyman and a Stasi spy called Weisler, whose job it is to keep Dreyman under 24 hour surveillance. Weisler is supposed to be reporting back to his superiors at the Stasi in order to discredit the playwright. However, he develops a strong sympathy for the playwright and his girlfriend, and determines to protect them by not reporting anything significant. The scenes in the film where it cuts from the colourful and interesting lives of Dreyman and his friends to the lonely attic where Weisler is sitting really show the contrast between the two men. The film is shot in such a way that it makes you believe you are also spying on Dreyman, it even made me feel a bit guilty!
I like this film because it has fascinating, 3-dimensional characters, and also the plot has plenty of twists. Right up until the end of the film, we are left guessing how it could possibly end. It is also very thought-provoking because it makes you wonder how many people working for the Stasi actually did protect the people they were spying on.
As for the message it gives, I would say the main message is that we can find kindness and humanity in the most unexpected of places. The film makes us realize that nothing is ever black and white! The film also serves as a warning about the dangers of an oppressive, paranoid regime and is perhaps quite pertinent in this current age of mass surveillance.

Topic :
Describe a festival that is important in your country
You should say:
- When the festival occurs
- What you did during it
- What you like or dislike about it
- And explain why this festival is important
Answer:
I think the main festival in my country is Christmas, which is in late December. The main day that is celebrated in the UK is Christmas Day, on 25th December, though we also have the day off the following day, independent day when many people visit friends and extended family.
I spent last Christmas with my family, and will also spend this one there too. We all get together at my parents’ house, because it is large enough to host everyone. On Christmas morning, we start preparing the meal, as it takes a long time to cook! We put the turkey or goose in the oven, and then some of us go to church for a Christmas mass. The rest of us stay behind to carry on cooking.
At around midday, we gather round the Christmas tree, which is decorated with baubles, tinsel, and fairy lights and we open our presents, which are all placed under the tree the night before. After that we have our Christmas dinner, which is always the same meal as it is a traditional feast.
I love nearly everything about Christmas. There is a sense of anticipation and excitement in the period leading up to Christmas, and then during the festival itself families and friends spend time together and most people have time off work. One thing I don’t like about Christmas is that it is very commercialized and it can be stressful getting ready for it!
This festival is important for many people, even for non-Christians. Many non-Christian people in the our country enjoy the festive season without attaching any religious significance to it. It is our only national holiday involving resting, feasting and the giving of gifts, and I think such times nurture our souls.
Other answer :
I think the main festival in my country is Tet festival. ..

Topic: Save energy to protect the environment
For me We should save energy to protect the environment because of these below reasons. First, saving energy helps us maintain longer lifetime in the future, as energy runs living system, nothing or no one can survive without energy. In our society energy means coal, gas, electric, fuel. In one day, we can suffer the shortage of the certain amount of energy due to overwhelmed population, extravagance of energy,.. Moreover, to reduce alarming environment pollution, we should cut down on the amount of energy used, energy is almost all things easy to burn and give off exhaust polluting many kinds of environment such as air, water, soil. Therefore, people can be affected to a greater or less degree . According to estimation in the world, every year, the number of cancer patients is increasing up to 12%. In short, I firmly commit to the notion that saving energy should be encouraged to be in practice.

Unit 11 TRAVELLING IN THE FUTURE
Describe a place that you would like to travel to.
You should say:
 - Where you would like to go
    - How you would go there
Who you would go with
Model Answer:
I had a very close friend in my school level who lives in Singapore (...say a place name...) and I would like to travel to his living place. I have a plan to visit (...say the place name...) whenever I will get holidays for 4-5 days. The friend has invited me to visit his place and in the meantime, he has visited my place twice. So my turn to visit his place has become mandatory. As he is living in a rural area where hills, tea gardens are available, I am sure I will enjoy my visit there.
There are three options to visit the place- bus, train and aeroplane. For me, the aeroplane would be bit expensive and I like traveling by train, so I will take the train to visit there. I have few reasons to visit this particular place.
First of all, this area is famous for its natural beauty and a good number of local and foreign tourists visit this place each year. I would be able to enjoy my stay and live close to nature during my stay there and I want to practice English to native speakers.
Second, I would enjoy my friend's accompany there and as he has already visited my place twice, I feel kind of obliged to visit his living place. Another reason I would like to travel there is to stay away from the busy life and busy city for dew days.
Q. What do you think people can learn from traveling to other countries?
Q. What means of transport will people travel in the future ?
Speaking Unit 12 Grade 7 AN OVERPOPULATION WORLD
Overpopulation
1/ Overpopulation can lead to :
- Overcrowding and poor quality housing in many large cities.
- Poorly heated or damp housing could cause significant health problems, resulting in illness, such as bronchitis or pneumonia.
- Another serious consequence of overcrowding is a rising crime rate as poor living conditions may lead young people in particular to take desperate activities and turn to crime or drugs.
- Crowded areas show greater amounts of violence and crime than areas with fewer people.
- Along with living space, food is also used up by overpopulation.
+ There is not always enough food to feed all of the hungry mouths living in these large cities.
+ Overpopulation can create homeless, hungry people simply by using up all of the space and food.
 - Natural resources are also among the most important things used up by overpopulation.
+ Things like fresh water, natural gas, and valuable metals can only go so far and there will come a time when we do not have enough for everyone.
2/ The Government Should
- provides essential housing and healthcare for all its citizens.
- setting up community projects to help foster more community spirit and help keep young people off the street is a good idea. For example, youth clubs or evening classes for teenagers would keep them occupied.
- set up more police stations
Therefore, it is clear that the problems caused by overpopulation in urban areas are very serious. Yet if governments and individuals share a collective responsibility, then it may well become possible to offer some solutions.
